I Will Never Live Check to Check Again

I am never going to live check to check again. For most of my adult life every paycheck has meant too much, make or break; I think a lot of people do that, always juggling bills and dealing with demeaning calls to creditors. It’s no way to live and I am opting out. This is why I chose to become a campground host instead of getting a job in the north Sacramento Valley and renting an apartment; if I had done that, I would have been living check to check. Even with the cheaper rent outside Sacramento I would still just be breaking even and that would mean never going out to eat or the movies or whatever.

California is an expensive place to live, but at least our minimum is $15 per hour. In some states it is half that. Even with cheaper rent how do people in Mississippi or Arkansas afford that? It’s a stressful way to live and, personally, I’m out. Living out of a minivan isn’t easy, but it’s preferrable to constantly worrying about paying bills and rent. Even at minimum wage I can save money.

I have debts left over from my old life and I will be paying on them for years. The only way to look at it is a reminder that if you can’t buy something with the money in the bank don’t do it. I’m just fortunate that I am a minimalist, I need very little to be happy. The other camp hosts have big, expensive trailers that cost a lot of money to move around; my Honda Odyssey averages 23 miles per gallon. I’m just hoping my van lasts long enough that I can pay her off.

Hey, while I got you here I just put the fourth book of song lyrics, More Photographs of Pets and Food, on Amazon. Here is the link to where you can find my books:
